Just thought I would share a little project I did last summer. We live in a 94 year old craftsman bungalow that needs work so there is a lot of paint to strip and repaint. There is an infrared paint stripper on the market called The Silent Paint Stripper that works great but costs over $300. I'm not willing to pay that much for a paint stripper so I decided to make my own from a infrared space heater. Here are some pics of what I came up with.

The thing works great! Once it gets up to temp, it will get a space the size shown in the bottom picture all hot, bubbling and ready to scrape in about 30 seconds. I wonder if it would work on a Vette. . . .

I don't think it would work very well on our vettes, but i am glad you posted that,i will have to give it a try the next time i need to strip some wood.

Good job, homemade tools are always great ... but don't you think a heat gun like this one below would do the job just as good for less than $20 ??

No way. I have one. It doesn't produce near the amount of heat that my homemade one does. I'm guessing the infrared heater loosens paint 4 or 5 times faster. That heat gun just has an itty bitty heat element in it compared to the 2 quartz tubes in the infrared.

Where did you find the heating elements for this paint stripper?
It is different than the others that i have seen.

Please let me know.

The elements came out of this: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Bionaire-BQH308C-U-Quartz-Heater-Thermostat/dp/B000I11NMA"]Bionaire BQH308C-U Quartz Tower Heater[/ame]
