I read the other thread on alternator upgrade, but did not get the answer I need. I have a 71 with the following changes that effect the electrical system:

Gen 6 502 with Accel DFI and cal-map
Accel electric fuel pump
Spal dual electric fans
Hella projector headlamps (halogen not HID)

AC will be installed but compressor not yet selected.
Run of the mill stereo, nothing exotic.
Future consideration for nitros oxide.

Stock complement of gauges, lights, horns, etc.
Power windows.

I can't see replacing the 70amp alternator with a unit of the same size. What amp unit should I get?

Thanks,
Dave

Apparently the one to get is the CS144 alt, junkyard or parts house,...if parts house..LOOK OUT!!! prices rather high, to say the least....

but it's good for some 140 amps, and will be smaller in diameter....

I have a SBC in my '72 with serp drive and used a SI17 alt, which for ME fits fine....I goofed up and recommended one to a BB owner, come find out the hood will not close, great.....

so being a BB, the only one I know of that will fit, supposedly, is a CS144
....

Thanks Gene, I'll start shopping.

OH, the mechanicals will mount the same as the SI series alts...just swap pulleys as necessary....

like I have a '88-91 vette serp drive.....runnint the SI alts....when it came with a CS series.....but that larger diameter of the 17SI is no issue for ME....
