View Full Version : Caution on tire to tie rod clearance

07-10-2008, 02:01 AM
I checked over the entire car when I had it on the lift and found a bent passenger side steering arm. There is 3/8 clearance on the side that is bent and during an autoX last year it touched the sidewall !! No damage to the tire.

The other side has about 1.25" clearance and has no problem.

This is with 15x10x4 and 275/50's

Just be careful in maximum effort situations and check everything often.

I changed the rim from 15x8x3 to the current size (same rubber) mid year last year and it made a big difference in handling but exposed a broken component.

Mine cut the sidewall so much that the tires lost a few pounds in an hour or less

I'm glad they didn't blow out

You can see the rubber it wore of in this pic

My tires shouldn't stick anywhere near as far out as my old ones on 15x8's. I'll be running 245/45/15 on 15x10x4, the side wall should stick out around .25" vs. my other tires 1.5"
