426 Hemi GTX vs 440 / 6 Pack Challenger - 1/4 Mile Drag Race
http://www.RoadTestTV.com 1/4 mile drag race between a 1967 426 Hemi Plymouth GTX and a 1970 440 6 Pack Dodge Challenger. The Challenger has 3 - 2 barrel carburetors and is rated at 390 horsepower. The Hemi GTX has 2 - 4 barrel carburetors from the factory and is rated at 425 horsepower. Both cars are very, very rare.

Kind puts the old muscle cars in perspective when you realize current production Corvettes are now faster.

It has been a few decades, but I recall the HEMI was not to be ignored even if you had a 1/8 mile lead on the SOB.....the top end turn ON was just ASStounding......freeking car run you down no matter what.....

Yeah, no one could grab a $100 bill off the dash either!

From the factory they weren't as fast as today's factory corvettes.

keep in mind the tires we had back then and the powerloss through the transmission. a good running car like those with a competent driver against an average driver in a new Vette may surprise the heck out of everyone.

I drove a lot of the muscle cars or had friends that drove them when I was growing up in the 70's. A c6 z is not the top of the line any more, and the old muscle cars can't compare to it.

i own a 66 hemi charger and have for 30 years , I've owned 5 hemi cars and bought them all from guys that said they don't run right. they are temperamental and require some tinkering. but with a little work i can assure you they won't embarrass you.
